About

A small studio for
serious infrastructure.

SpawnLabs is a platform engineering studio. We build the operational systems businesses run on day to day — production software, designed for the specific way a company works and built to stay in service.

Why this studio exists

SpawnLabs sells operating leverage. The platforms we build are the systems our clients run the business on — in production, carrying real work, the day after we hand them over.

The studio started from a pattern we kept seeing: capable businesses operating out of group chats and spreadsheets because every off-the-shelf option broke down the moment it met their actual workflow. These were companies that could afford better software. The gap was that nobody was building serious systems at their scale.

So we built one. Six-week founding sprints, custom backends, every system designed for the business it belongs to. The studio stays small by design — a handful of engagements a year, each with senior attention throughout.

Principles

How we think about the work.

01

Build for the operator.

The person typing into the system at 2am during a shift handover is who we design for. That means it holds up under load, on the hardware they actually use, in the conditions they actually work in — a warehouse floor, a moving vehicle, a phone with one bar of signal.

The real test is an ordinary Tuesday.

02

Start with the schema.

Every project begins with a data model designed for the actual domain. The business logic is where the value sits, and generic abstractions tend to flatten exactly the parts that matter most. The interface renders that logic; the logic is the product.

Schemas are how we model what's true.

03

Hand over a platform.

You own the code, the data, the infrastructure, and the documentation. Retainers cover continued development and stay optional — if we did the job right, your team could run the platform without us. That's the bar we build to.

Handover is the deliverable.

Scope

Where we'd point you elsewhere.

Specialising deeply means being the wrong choice for some genuinely good work. When a project looks like one of these, we'll say so early and recommend someone better suited.

Marketing & brand sites

A craft of its own, and there are studios who do it beautifully. Our work tends to start where the product software does.

Rapid MVPs

When the goal is to validate an idea quickly, a lighter, faster team will serve you better. We're built for the system that comes after that.

SaaS assembly

Sometimes the right answer really is connecting the tools you already have. That's an operations problem, and specialists in it will get you further than we would.

Model-API products

A focused layer over an LLM can be an excellent product. It's also a small build, and usually doesn't need a full studio engagement.
