Most software studios sell output — pages shipped, screens designed, sprints completed. SpawnLabs sells operating leverage. The platforms we build are the things our clients run on, the day after we hand them over.
We started because we kept watching real businesses operate from group chats and spreadsheets — not because they couldn't afford software, but because every off-the-shelf option failed the moment it met their actual workflow. The gap wasn't budget. It was that nobody was building serious systems for them.
So we did. Six-week founding sprints, custom backends, no template products. The studio is small on purpose — we'd rather ship four projects deeply than fourteen on autopilot.
How we think about the work.
Build for the operator, not the demo.
The person typing into the system at 2am during a shift handover — that's who we design for. If it's beautiful but slow under load, or readable on a Mac but unusable on a phone in a warehouse, we built the wrong thing.
“The product isn't the screenshot. It's the Tuesday.”
“Schemas are how we model what's true.”
Custom backend or don't bother.
Every project starts with database schemas designed for the actual domain — not a generic CMS underneath. The business logic is the moat; off-the-shelf abstractions usually break it. Frontend is a render of that logic, not a substitute for it.
Hand over a platform, not a dependency.
You own the code, the data, the infrastructure, the documentation. Our retainer is for evolution, not for hostage-keeping the keys. If we did the job right, you could run it without us — that's the bar.
“Ownership > lock-in.”
What we don't do.
Saying no to the wrong work is how we stay good at the right work.
Marketing sites
We build operational systems. Brand websites are a different craft — go find someone who loves them.
MVP-to-be-thrown-away
If the plan is to rewrite it in six months, the work is throwaway. We build for what runs after.
Off-the-shelf assembly
Stitching three SaaS tools together is consulting, not engineering. Hire a consultancy for that.
AI-product wrappers
If the entire product is a wrapper around an LLM call, you don't need us — you need a weekend.
